Working to live or living to work? A re-assessment of meaning and employee wellness
Anecdotally across industry there exists a culture of over working and over extending oneself perhaps to the point where some employees present signs/behaviours exhibiting burn out. Burn out may present as stress, anxiety, depression, frustration and disillusionment. There is also the potential physical cost including a poor diet, lack of exercise, weight gain and potential medical concerns. Perhaps one of the more brutal realities that arise for employees that have a poor work-home life balance is the loss of irreplaceable moments/events with children, their partner, family and the alienation of one’s own self determination (hobbies and recreation).
